About Us

Thika Water and Sewerage Company Ltd (THIWASCO) dates back to 1950 when the Thika Water Project was initiated in Chania River and commissioned in 1956. Later, the operations of the water project were transferred to the Water Department under the defunct Thika Municipal Council. In July 2009, THIWASCO was incorporated as a limited company in line with the water sector reforms introduced in the Water Act, 2002. The Company began its operations in September 2009 as a Water Service Provider (WSP) under the Athi Water Services Board (AWSB) which is currently known as Athi Water Works Development Agency (AWWDA).
